Samenvatting

This report describes a continuation of the work covered in RRL Report LR70 (=A 476). Again, two groups of car drivers drove around a 12 mile route under normal traffic conditions. Again, one group consisted of 50 drivers who had been convicted of Careless Driving, while the other group consisted of 50 drivers chosen at random. Each driver was accompanied by two observers, both of whom observed certain items of drivers behaviour while one observer recorded the observed data. Results showed that the following three items of driving behaviour (drive indices) were significantly different between the group of drivers, with the "Careless" group having higher values that the "Random group" - risks taken, the ratio of overtaking to being overtaken and the occurrence of unnecessary manoeuvres.
