Samenvatting

The percentage of drivers visibly manipulating hand-held devices while driving dropped significantly from 1.0 percent in 2008 to 0.6 percent in 2009. Similarly, the hand-held cell phone use by drivers also dropped significantly from 6 percent in 2008 to 5 percent in 2009 (Figure 1). These results are from the National Occupant Protection Use Survey (NOPUS), which provides the only nationwide probability-based observed data on driver electronic device use in the United States. NOPUS is conducted annually by the National Center for Statistics and Analysis (NCSA), National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. (Author/publisher)
