Samenvatting

How do a driver's personality and attitudes affect their propensity towards risk taking behaviours? A questionnaire was used to investigate the correlation between driver attitudes, incidences of risk behaviours, lapses, errors, and violations and the personality trait of sensation seeking. The results show significant associations between attitudes towards speeding, risk behaviours, attitudes towards traffic flow and violations, however there was not a significant association between sensation seeking scores and levels of self report lapses and errors. It was concluded that sensation seeking serves to facilitate the incidence of risky driving behaviours. (Author/publisher)
