Samenvatting

The QUO VADIS project is evaluating the use of on line VMS (Variable Message Sign) control strategies to produce optimal management of traffic movements. In order to do this effectively it has been necessary to establish the impact on driver route choice of each of a range of possible VMS messages. This has been achieved by means of a route choice simulator. Preliminary analysis of the results has indicated the relative effectiveness of different messages and has allowed some general conclusions to be drawn on the performance of different types of message which will be of value to VMS system designers elsewhere.
