Samenvatting

This issue of Current Topics in Transport includes c80 abstracts of reports, conference papers, books and journal articles on the development and measurement of, influences on and training for, the awareness of risk in novice, experienced and expert drivers. Specific behaviours considered include close following, use of mobile phones, non use of crash helmets and seat belts, the effects of age, fatigue, annual mileage, individual attitudes, risk compensation etc. Some abstracts are included on countermeasures, such as the use of simulation in driver training and retraining, and publicity campaigns. These items have been selected from the material added to the Transport Research Laboratory's Library Database between 1991 and 1997. Much of the relevant English language literature from the UK, USA, Australia and Europe is included; some of the non-UK literature is included courtesy of the OECD International Road Research Documentation (IRRD) database.
