Samenvatting

This report summarizes key outcomes of the study ’Drivers and limits’ that was supported for the period 2009-2013 by a research grant from the Danish Strategic Research Council. The project investigated - for the empirical context of Denmark - key driving forces behind transport growth, as well as the notion of limits to mobility, arising out of system interactions or set by external policy ambitions. The report is divided into three main sections. The introduction Part I details the study motivation and its background. Part II summarizes the results obtained within the four areas of research and sub-themes developed during the course of this study, namely: Travel patterns among young and elderly population groups; Long distance travel, including international travel; The role of land use, urban form, and infrastructure for travel demand; The impacts of capacity utilization in road freight transport. Part III considers possible policy implications of the results. The conclusion Part IV points to areas of future research interest that emerged in light of the integration of analysis results from the study. (Author/publisher)
