Samenvatting

The paper summarises the results of a driving simulator experiment conducted in order to assess acceptability and modifications in driver behaviour under a collision warning system. Subjects participated in the experiment driving in simulated fog conditions, and under two different Human-Machine Interface (HMI) forms. The analysis of both subjective and objective data, acquired by questionnaires and recording of experimental data, shows three main results for the experiment: the driving behaviour is modified in the direction of increasing safety, the system is well accepted and considered to be useful, and the choice between two suggested HMI solutions is uncertain and depends on preferences in subjective opinions and objective driving behaviours.
