Samenvatting

Psychological and physiological effects of acute cannabis intoxication are considered. It is shown that hashish smoking does not affect oxygen consumption in man. However, performance requirements in driving a car under the influence of the drug appear to be felt as stress which demands a response from a psychologically stimulated high energy level. Reduced performance capability manifests itself if actual stress situations are superimposed upon the normal task. It is concluded that hashish impairs the ability to drive safely.
