Samenvatting

This paper concerns legislation, trends and education on drug abuse among drivers in Slovenia. Legal regulations enable the police to take urine and blood samples and the analysis of the data thus collected contributes to the epidemiology of drugs in Slovenia. Driving under the influence of drugs is often the first time young drug abusers are discovered to be breaking the law. An increase has been noted in the number of people deciding to drive while intoxicated, regardless of penalty. Efforts for better road safety are therefore directed not only to detection and sanctioning of driving under the influence of drugs but also to devising programmes of medical and psychological help, treatment and rehabilitation.
