Samenvatting

Traffic safety is moving in the right direction in the Netherlands. Although there were still 817 traffic-related deaths to mourn in 2005, traffic safety is greater than ever before. Furthermore, in this respect the Netherlands ranks high in comparison to other countries. It has one of the best traffic safety rates in Europe. This brochure is filled with measures we plan to take to increase traffic safety in the Netherlands. Like improved vehicle technology, allowing cars to anticipate and work with their drivers. And better driver training; more designated 30 km/h-zones; public traffic safety campaigns; and traffic enforcement. This brochure is designed for everyone seeking more information on traffic safety. This `Road Map' indicates the way for policymakers here and abroad to realise better traffic safety.
