Samenvatting

The current transport system consists of public transport and private transport. The former is sustainable but has a poor quality, the latter has a high quality but is not sustainable. As the private transport prevails the total transport system can not be called 'sustainable'. Because the system is not expected to become sustainable in the near future, research has to be done to new means of transport. These means have to be combined into transport systems. Therefore, criteria of quality are formulated. These criteria formulate which functional demands the system has to meet with, and give an indication of which means can be used in the total system. After the forming of systems a selection has to take place on the basis of sustainability. Criteria for this selection are formulated next to the criteria of quality. Those systems with a good quality and a good sustainability will be studied in detail. (A)
