This report aims to accelerate the realisation of fifteen proposed projects. These projects, their anticipated results, and the ensuing products were formulated in the "Foundation document on research and recommendations for a sustainable, safe traffic and transport system". This document was published by the Netherlands Transport Research Centre (AVV) of the Ministry of Public Works in April 1994. The document offers a broad description of the activities that AVV considers necessary in the `sustainable-safe transport' field in the coming years. The report analyses and describes the following for each of the fifteen subjects: (1) which initiatives in the road safety field have meantime been developed and are in the process of development in the sense of `sustainable-safe' objectives; (2) which initiatives have the research organisations and consultancies developed, or are they developing, in the `sustainable-safe' field; and (3) which trends within the scientific traffic world are important for the further development of the `sustainable-safe' concept. The report also describes the SWOV Institute for Road Safety Research standpoint with respect to each subject.
