Samenvatting

Sustainable Safety from theory into practice : exploration of barriers for the implementation of Sustainable Safety. There are frequent signals from practice about problems with the implementation of Sustainable Safety. These can be very practical problems, like a road that cannot be given the desired width due to insufficient space, or an access road that is not fitted with speed reducing measures because public transport must also be able to pass unhindered. But problems have also occurred at a different level, for example with translating the vision into practical guidelines. Problems like the ones above are barriers for the (full) implementation of Sustainable Safety in practice. An overview of such barriers and solutions was not yet available. The present report contains an overview of barriers that have occurred in practice. In composing the overview we not only looked at infrastructural measures being implemented in practice, but we also investigated different levels of Sustainable Safety and its full width. Eight cases were used as a basis to make an inventory of the barriers for including the Sustainable Safety vision in policy plans, concrete guidelines and programmes. Seven other cases provided an overview of barriers that occurred during the actual practical implementation of measures. The case studies were carried out by Partners+Pröpper and DHV respectively.
