Cities are not longer fit for children. Playgrounds disappear, new functionas appear and cars arrive at the spots. Schools and other kid-attracting functions merge, which leads to more car use and less independency for kids. Because of the availability of space for kids young families move to the new towns: in economic perspective and from the point of view of liveable cities, health and mobility a complete disaster for the existing (inner) cities. Local governments should take the challenge to put kids on the local agenda: more space for kids is necessary. Kids should become a ‘protected species’. It’s time for K.i.d.S: Kids in the Streets!
