Samenvatting

The aim of this project was to introduce the speed adaptation function to 25 car drivers and let them test the equipment in their own cars for a period of two months. In previous research projects individual car drivers were given the opportunity to drive a test vehicle with Speed Limiter in an urban area. The experiences from these field trials were positive. Therefore a project was started in which the drivers used the Speed Adaptation (SA) function for two months. The speed adaptation function reacts with an active accelerator pedal. When the actual speed limit is reached there is no resistance in the pedal and it is not possible to reach a higher speed. The evaluation methods used in the project were observations of driving behaviour, data logging of driving patterns and interviews with the drivers. There was a clear difference between the measurement periods with and without the SA-function. At the before study, without the SA-function, the driver's speed level was often apparently over the actual legal speed limit. In the after study with the SA-function the speed levels are reduced to the actual legal speed level.
