Samenvatting

Antilock Braking Systems (ABS) form the basis for different categories of traction and stability control systems. Combined traction and stability control systems in a similar manner as with ABS, are based on wheel speed information only. By intelligent analysis of the different wheel speed signals it becomes possible to differentiate between different driving situations. However, a more exact definition of the respective driving situation requires additional information besides the wheel speed signals only. This is especially true when more active corrective measures are considered for sophisticated wheel slip control systems. Besides conventional Automatic Stability Control (ASC), a new category of Dynamic category of Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) was developed to allow for simultaneous consideration of longitudinal and lateral slip control. The technical system layout of the different wheel slip control systems, is briefly described. Results comparing the respective performance of the different controllers are shown. It can be concluded that the evolutionary development of the different stability control systems considered for this comparison, results in a highly remarkable contribution to the improvement of active safety.
