Samenvatting

MTA Bridges and Tunnels' (B&T) nine facilities are key transportation links in New York City carrying more than 750,000 vehicles per day. Road and toll plaza expansion to alleviate daily rush hour demand is not a practical alternative, a problem that is also common to other local toll agencies. As a result, the E-ZPass Interagency Group was created by the toll agencies in the region to help identify a common solution to road congestion. Today, B&T's E-ZPass program is the largest in the world with nearly 1.6 million tags issued to date and 60% of its traffic utilizing the technology. Five other agencies in the region have also put E-ZPass systems into place. Getting to this point, however, and staying ahead of the curve has certainly had its challenges. (A*)
