Samenvatting

Laws requiring occupants of motor vehicles to wear safety belts have been enacted in many nations. However, the United States of America has lagged behind in this regard. The U.S.A. is late in adopting adult safety belt law, having begun only in 1985. To date 26 of 50 states have adopted such laws. In the US the climate still does not favor completely high levels of compliance. Some police agencies are cool to the law, and enforcement is sometimes casual.
