Samenvatting

Although the study of the role of the atmosphere in explaining the observed variation in the rotation rate of Earth and hence the length of day (lod) has a long history, recent advances in global observation, analysis, and prediction of the state of the atmosphere together with much improved measurements of the lod have led to renewed and more sophisticated study of the subject.
