A study is presented on the efficiency of econometers and on board computers in cars to save energy. Emphasis is given to the econometer. As econometers are considered instruments for measuring the fuel consumption, vacuum meters, economy meters, ecometers etc. The econometer is a feedback instrument which gives the driver a visual indication of the fuel consumption at the moment. This indication can vary globally in the form of a proportion scale in which is indicated if much or less fuel is used or into a detailed scale in which the use of fuel is indicated in liters per 100 kilometers or in kilometers per liter. With the on board computer it is possible to calculate more and accurate data on data on fuel consumption ant to load these figures in a database. Other data on the average speed on a certain traject, the outside temperature, the journey time for a special traject, etc. can also be calculated.
