Results are presented of a probability sample survey of police-reported auto accidents injuries and fatalities in 48 states in the U.S.A.. Average economic losses for the seriously injured were $ 4200. Average economic losses in fatality cases was $ 2300 exclusive of lost earnings. Last earnings, legal costs, age factors, insurance coverage time between accident and settlement of tort claim and criteria for considering injuries serious and also discussed.
