Samenvatting

The course of those economic variables directly relating to transport and travel has been very different in recent years to the experience prior to 1973. However, there are many complications inherent in assessing exactly what effects they have had. This paper begins by considering the pattern of car ownership in the UK, and shows how other factors appear largely to have overruled the adverse economic effects. It then goes on to consider the rather sparser evidence concerning travel patterns.
