During the last years different studies are carried out into the costs of acute physical trauma. With aid of these studies total amounts on an aggregated level were calculated, for instance for all acute trauma caused by traffic accidents. However, there is a need for more differentiated data on the costs of trauma. This report presents the first phase in the development of a computerised model, by which continuously can be calculated what the direct medical costs are for acute physical trauma in the Netherlands, (in total, per category and per subcategory). In this phase it is determined which groups of patients should be considered, which elements of the costs should be taken into account, which information should be gathered, and which software should be developed.
