Samenvatting

This study was designed to obtain a picture of the typical properties of 80-km/h roads in the Netherlands, and the accompanying subjective appraisal. In order to do so 80 subjects (m/f) were recruited. They had to sort out 67 photographs made of a variety of 80-km/h roads taken in a standardised way. The photographs has to be sorted according to driving speed: the subjects had to indicate at what speed it may be possible to drive easily and safely along the roads on the photographs according to their opinion. The subjects could select the following speeds for the photographs: 60, 70, 80, 90 and 100 km/h. Referring to the photographs they had to fill in a set of questionnaires. Then for each speed group they selected one photograph that was the best representative of that group. After that the Road Environment construct List was applied to that best representative photo. Some general questions completed the experiment.
