The effect of the design of road network on the intensity of traffic movement in different parts of a town with special reference to the effects of ring roads.

Calculations have been made to find the effects of a number of idealised road and routeing systems and a number of patterns of trip ends on the average distance travelled. It was found that the type of road network and the routeing method used have much less effect on the average distance travelled than on the distance travelled per unit area.
