An evaluation was made to evaluate the effectiveness of edge marking on narrow rural roads. The author felt that the primary purpose of edge marking was to enable drivers to follow a road at night or under other adverse visibility conditions. It is hypothesized that the effectiveness of such marking would be reflected in improved traffic operation characteristics over those of non-edge marked roads.
