The action of Fexofenadine, a medication used to alleviate symptoms of seasonal allergic rhinitis, is outlined. A study is then described which was designed to assess the effect of Fexofenadine on psychomotor performance, in particular car driving. A secondary objective was to assess possible pharmacokinetic or dynamic interaction between Fexofenadine and alcohol as they affect driving performance. Psychomotor tests carried out included a) critical flicker/fusion frequency test, b) choice reaction time test, c) critical tracking test and d) vigilance test. The effects of Fexofenadine were found to be slight and in the case of driving performance, beneficial.
