Samenvatting

The comparative effectiveness of two types of alerting signals for lane closure was studied in terms of traffic flow characteristics and driver decision-making correlated (viz. responsiveness/confusion, risk taking and hazard.) In addition to improvements in terms of several traffic flow characteristics, results showed the system affording the earlier warning to be superior in terms of decreased driver confusion and hazard in gap acceptance.
