This paper reports on an investigation into the effects of the level of spatial deatail (i.e. zone size and network detail) on travel predictions. It focusses on the effects upon predicted shortest routes for car traffic in urban road networks. An experiment was caried out in which at three levels of detail shortest routes were predicted between a number of origin-destination pairs. Shortest routes predicted at three levels of detail between 232 origin-destination pairs were compared.
