An assumption common to existing urban trip distribution models concerning the location of zones is tested by an analysis of variance of interzonal trip data. The assumption is that interzonal volumes are independent of zonal location but are a function of zonal separation. A test for the existence of a trip direction effect with respect to the urban center is developed and applied. /author/.
