Samenvatting

For a sustainable safe traffic it is important that roads are self-explaining, that is that road users have the right expectation with regard to both the presence and behaviour of the other road users as well as the demands with regard to their own behaviour. This study investigates: (i) whether different types of 80 km/h roads in The Netherlands can be distinguished; (ii) to what extent different road images evoke the right expectations by road users; and (iii) whether the proposed alternative road design option would led to improvement.
