Samenvatting

The US states are since April 2, 1987 permitted to raise the speed limit up to 65 mph on their rural Interstate highways. This report indicates on increase of fatalities on all rural Interstate highways during calender year 1987, but NHTSA emphasis that with only one year of data, it is too early to draw any conclusions as to the long term effect of the increased speed limit on fatalities.
