Results are presented on a "before and after" study of the effects of the October 1994 fuel price increase in Nigeria on the urban transport market, and its implications for policy, transport, and socio-economic activities. Though elasticity calculations show that no adverse effects have occurred following the policy change, other results show that, in general, there have been significant changes in travel behaviour in the form of reduced trip rates and increased travel money expenditures, resulting in significant shifts in population groupings and changes in life style of the average individual.
