Samenvatting

The use of seat belts was made compulsory in New South Wales in October 1971. In the first full year of compulsion, the actual number of vehicle occupant deaths was 25% below a figure which could have been confidently predicted using statistical methods, and this drop was statistically significant. There was an associated decrease in severe injury.
