To prevent drivers falling asleep while driving, music was used in an effort to maintain driver's wakefulness while driving. The effect of music on subjects' active state was examined. Experimental music was categorized into 4 groups by the musical preference and tempo. The results indicated an increase in the heart rate and the beta wave while listening to "high-fast" music. These results suggested that musical preference and tempo were effective factors to stimulate the arousal level. For the covering abstract see ITRD E134653.
