Samenvatting

Two experiments conducted to investigate the relationship between simultaneous and successive brightness contrast indicate that both are governed by similar principles. However, an equivalent background transformation suggests that the spatial integration of light differs for each. Thus, although both seem to be governed by the same principles it was concluded that these effects result from different mechanisms.
