Samenvatting

The development of a multi-body model of an appropriate child restraint system proves to be useful for the evaluation of various existing seat belt restraint systems and their effect in the injury risk of children ages 4 to 10. The proper restraint for children ages 4-10 years old is a booster seat that is restrained by the vehicle's seat belt system. The goal of this paper is to investigate the effects of misuse of the restraint system by varying initial seat belt slack and to investigate the effects of modern countermeasures such as force limiting belts and pretentioners on the injury risk of young children.
