Samenvatting

This paper presents the development of a discrete event microsimulation model that considers vehicle movement and parking search within multi-storey car parks serving urban developments, the interactions with traffic along adjacent roads and the impact of parking information systems. This approach enables a detailed representation of the complex processes that can occur in and around these car parks. The model considers different trip purposes associated with the destination end and different vehicle types within a local area network. The paper provides an overview of the model components, and presents some findings of calibration and validation using data collected at several multi-storey car park sites in Singapore. The paper also reports on latest model enhancements to provide the capability of studying driving and parking behaviour through the conduct of virtual (simulator) experiments.
