The expansion of road building projects in the last few decades has meant serious intrusions into nature and the landscape. Towns are partly robbed of their individuality, and the function of town centres as a living area is often lost. This resulted in decreasing residential quality and increasing accident risks in relation to rural areas. To counteract this unsatisfactory situation, much greater attention must be paid to road environment in the planning process. Road environment and its related activities must become the basis for the segragation and design of road space.
