In this paper, population projections for thirteen European countries are presented. It is forecast that the number of elderly people will have increased by 40% (those aged 60 and over) by 2025. Implications for: vehicle ownership and licence holding; vehicle use by elderly and disabled people are discussed. Statistics are presented in ten tables: (1) population projections; (2) incidence of disability in relation to age (UK); (3) population projections 1991-2031 (UK); (4) future numbers of people with disabilities; (5) car access in relation to age and sex; (6) changes in car driving licence ownership (UK) 1965-1985/6; (7) driving licence ownership: elderly people; (8) journeys per person per week by main mode; (9) types of transport used by severity category; and (10) frequency of use of private car, bus and train by disabled adults living in private households.
