Samenvatting

The question of elderly drivers in relation to driving ability and the possible need for restrictions of licences and for insurance is discussed. It is concluded that there is insufficient evidence to indicate that the elderly represent driving hazards. It is suggested that a possible solution to the problem of licensing and insuring the elderly is the use of tailor-made insurance policies which may require special qualifications such as curfew and the designation of unsafe areas as "out of bounds".
