Samenvatting

Study of elderly drivers (ED) is considered important because of the higher accident risk of a growing number of active ED. A study such as the previous one cannot differentiate between mechanical, perceptual and cognitive causes of an accident since this information cannot be obtained from ed after an accident. In many cases, even with all data available, it is still impossible to decide what happened. This means that the distinctions of the model can almost never be made reliably with regard to accidents. Distinction between perceptual and cognitive deficiencies is also theoretically questionable. Research concerning ED should combine data from system theories for traffic and psychogerontology. What we must find out is how functional psychogerontology. What we must find out is how functional changes of normal ageing are mediated to the traffic behaviour of elderly drivers. For the paper by I.M. Bernhoft, see C 6539.
