Samenvatting

This paper describes the vehicle and propulsion system mechanization selected by general motors to assess the progress being made in the area of nickel zinc battery development. A fleet of 12 road vehicles have been fabricated and have contributed significantly to the accumulation of 200,000 test miles on nickel zinc powered electric vehicles. The drivetrain selected for these vehicles includes a separately excited DC motor, an SCR armature chopper, a transistorized bi-directional field chopper and a low level electronic control system based on General Motor's custom microprocessor chip set. This fleet of test vehicles does not represent production intent but does possess many of the attributes ./.F3
