The kontiki Working Group (kontaktloses ticketing/contactless chip card systems for electronic ticketing) was established in Dresden, Germany in March 1998. It has 67 members from Belgium, Denmark, Germany, France, the Netherlands, Switzerland, the Czech Republic and the USA. The objectives of the group are to develop and implement solutions for the efficient introduction of electronic ticketing in regional public transport. kontiki organises 2-day symposia three times a year. Members are divided into three groups: models, interoperability and mobility. The kontiki Recommendations for Action 2003 are outlined. The kontiki approach to electronic rate setting in public transport and cost-benefit analysis is described.
