The recent development, and future potential, of electronic systems for collection of bus fares and car parking fees, are examined. The two issues are related, not only through an application of similar technology, but also serving the same markets local transport. The Electronic Ticketing System (ETS) now used in bus industry is examined, with a short comparative review of parallel developments in car parking systems.
