Samenvatting
In France, fitting of seat belt was mandatory on front seat of new cars before the 1973 law. In 1973 mandatory use of seat belts was introduced but only outside of towns. In 1979 the French government decided to extend compulsory use to towns, from the 1st of October on. Technical improvements remain necessary: convenience of seat belts, further improvement of seat belt effectiveness, devising of adequate seat belts for heavy vehicles.
