The private car takes probably 7 % of the annual energy use; not too much, but the car is totally dependent of oil product. The car consumes probably 20% of the oil stream imported annual. A decrease in the import of oil requires energy saving cars or the use of alternative fuels. Diesel motoring on a grand scale will go wrong by the expected shortage of gasoline. The most promising alternatives are LPG and alcohol.
