Samenvatting

The effect of the barrier beam on the energy-absorbing capability of a guardrail system as a whole is studied. A synthetic system model is used as a tool for optimizing the size of beam and supports to produce the most cost-effective total system. The model gives the beam size and suspension requirements. Input data relating to impact conditions, material or component capacities, and component costs are outlined. The test results obtained are tabulated, compared and discussed.
