By means of a survey organised by a consortium of research institutes in a number of European countries, it is tried to get an insight into the self-reporting behaviour and opinions of drivers throughout Europe. The questionnaire was concerned with the risk perception of driving licence holders in different European countries. The Dutch contribution to this internationally comparative study is being made by SWOV Institute for Road Safety Research. This paper describes the survey carried out in the Netherlands, in October 1991. A similar survey was conducted simultaneously in the various European countries.
