This paper was presented at the `Transportation-Related Environmental Assessment, Site Audit and Management' session. This paper presents an overview of the Environmental Impact Assessment of the Fundy Trail Linear Parkway, the first roadway project subjected to a full environmental assessment in the province of New Brunswick. In addition to dealing with provincial environmental assessment requirements, the EIA study addressed the issues necessary to satisfy the requirements of the Federal Assessment Review Process Guidelines. This co-operative Federal Provincial assessment was completed under the direction of a large Technical Review Committee composed of representatives from both levels of government. The assessment also included an extensive program of public meetings and consultations with persons and organizations potentially affected by the construction and operation of the Fundy Trail Parkway.
